Iconify Changelog Details

2010/04/15 - Iconify 1.3.0

New link type: Iconify FileLink [& Iconify FolderLink (if FileScout/FileScoutLite is installed)]

Quick OTA-Update Link

What's new?

  • Iconify FileLinks - actually when I look at my desktop, I have plenty of links to files (& folders). These are either links to documents that I access frequently or links to my playlists, pictures, etc... So why not support the same on the BlackBerry®?
With Iconify v1.3.0 you can create such kind of links to your HomeScreen as well. Either you use the build-in Files app [OS4.x: Start the Media App and select 'Explore' from the #Menu] to create Iconify FileLinks or (if you have not already done so,) install FileScout or the free FileScoutLite to browse the file system of your BlackBerry® device, select any folder or file and choose 'Create File IconifyLink' from the #Menu.
There is more - As you know Iconify keeps track of changes of your Contacts - The same will happen for File IconifyLinks! When you rename files (folders) to which an IconifyLink is pointing then Iconify is automatically update the corresponding Iconify FileLink. When you delete a file or a folder the corresponding Iconify File/FolderLink will be removed as well. Unfortunately 'move' is not supported.
When you use FileScout/FileScoutLite to create IconifyFile & IconifyFolder Links then Iconify can make use of the FileScout file type icons. When you create a link to a picture with FileScout, Iconify can even take the thumbnail of the picture as HomeScreen icon.

What's Fixed?

  • Small GUI tweak to ensure all Dial- & Mail-Buttons will have always the same width (nicer overall impression).
  • Cause of too many inconsistencies in RIM's API the option to create Iconify DialLinks from the PhoneLog had to be removed again - simply cause too often no contact context was provided by the API when the user was selecting the Create Dial IconifyLink from the #Menu. Please be so kind and always create Dial & Mail IconifyLinks directly from the Contact-Application - TIA.

2010/03/30 - Iconify 1.2.0 - Dedicated to my grand mother Maxi

Novice & Expert Mode

What's new?

  • In order to make Iconify even more intuitive for beginners without loosing all the options that are loved by the power users Iconify now can be operated in two different modes: 'Novice' & 'Expert'
    • Expert-Mode:
      • That's the default Iconify-Mode you know from the previous releases with all the options and features the power users like to have
    • Novice-Mode:
      • Simplified Link configuration: You can specify a custom image for your link (that's it) - If you would like later to tweak additional details of your link you can switch to Expert Mode and edit the link in the Iconify Options
      • Automatically create combined Mail&Dial-Links
      • Iconify-Option Dialogs is only showing the major settings [of course including the switch between Expert & Novice Mode (General Options)]
  • Question if you like to create a combined Mail&Dial-Link will now be asked, before you are setting up the link details (this hopefully makes it more intuitive to create combined IconifyLinks) [ExpertMode only]
  • New 'General Option' - 'Iconify Mode':
to toggle at anytime between Novice and Expert Mode
  • New 'General Option' - 'Use one dialog for combined Mail&Dial-Links':
When you are in Expert Mode you can either have an additional dialog to select between dialing or mailing your contact (like in previous releases) or you can have one combined dialog that have both buttons sets to call or to mail your contact (like it's done in novice mode).
  • In the Edit-Links Options dialog you will find a new Menu entry called 'Resync Dial&Mail-Links with Contacts':
It could be that for what ever reason you purge all your contacts in your address book and resync them with a server (e.g. via BES). In this case your Iconify Mail and Dial Links might stop working. By using this function, you can resync your previously created Iconify Mail&Dial links with your new created contact list (of course you need to wait till the synchronisation of your address book has completed before you make use of this feature).

What's Fixed?

  • -nothing-

2010/03/14 - Iconify 1.1.0

Send & Import IconifyLinks

What's new?

  • Send your IconifyLink via eMail to one of your friends (can include the complete contact information of your a Mail- or Dial-Link)
This new functionality is available in the "Edit IconifyLinks" dialog of the Iconify-Options.
  • Import an IconifyLink file (.ilk) that you have received via eMail or have download (e.g from this WebSite).
  • Support for phone numbers that are stored in the 'others' field of a contact (can be also used for SMS).

What's Fixed?

  • Potential hang up's during device boot (problems accessing the contact list)

2010/03/07 - Iconify 1.0.6

Edit IconifyLinks improvements

What's new?

  • Little GUI tweaks (button sizes)
  • In the Edit IconifyLink option dialog you can now sort your IconifyLinks by Name or by LinkNumber (can be toggled via the #Menu)
  • When you completed the editing of an IconifyLink the link will be selected again in the IconifyLink list.

What's Fixed?

  • support for OS 4.3

2010/02/26 - Iconify 1.0.5

What's new?

  • New General Option 'Use Webpage Title as IconifyLink name'
Iconify can read the Webpage Title and use it as IconifyWeb-Link name - by default this option is OFF.
  • New IconifyLinks Image Option 'Use maximum HomeScreen icon height'
In Iconify v1.0.4 a new default Icon size was introduced (e.g. for Bold, Bold2) - Actually I got feedback that not everybody was happy with this adjustment. So with Iconify v1.0.5 you can select if you prefer the large icon size (as it was before v1.0.4) or if you like to use the new icon size. By default this option is OFF. So when you want to have the pre v1.0.4 icon height you need to enable this option (and might need to refresh all IconifyLinks)

2010/02/23 - Iconify 1.0.4.1

hotfix

What's fixed?

  • No IndexOutOfBounceException when creating IconifyLinks (Dial&Mail) for contacts without given or family name

2010/02/20 - Iconify 1.0.4

What's new?

  • New Option 'Autorefresh IconifyLink every 30min, 1h, 2h, 6h, 12h, 24h or OFF'
Can be used if you encounter frequently the lost of the IconifyLink icons and/or texts (e.g. when you deinsall an application via the options or changing the active theme). The default setting is 2hours. If you haven't any issues in the past (like myself on my Storm2 running OS5.0.0.436) then you can turn this function OFF.
  • Icon sizes tweaked to match better the default device icon size [e.g. on Bold, Bold2 & Tour]
  • Iconify now also available as ALX to be installed offline via RIM's DesktopManager

What's fixed?

  • Some workarounds to try to force the update of IconifyLinks that are located in the first row of your Homescreen when the device is rebooted.
IconifyLinks that are visible on the default HomeScreen (no #Menu button have to be pressed) might not show the assigned IconifyLink Icon because of issues in the OS (or theme) itself. This build improves the situation but still might not work in all situations.
  • Fix for possible startup NullPointerException (reboot)

2010/02/15 - Iconify 1.0.3

minimal tweaks

What's new?

  • Small performance improvements when a IconifyLauncher will be initialized
  • Thumbnail display can make use of the BlackBerry® device generated thumbnails that are stored in the 'BBThumbs.dat' files (when available). This implies the following restrictions:
    • Device generated thumbnails might not support AlphaLayers (transparency issues)
    • Thumbnail might not match orientation of the original image
    • Not supported for devices running OS5.x

What's fixed?

  • Nothing - I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed.

2010/02/11 - Iconify 1.0.2

Official release v1.0 - OS update/Device change enhancements

What's new?

  • Updating the OS (or changing the device) is quite a common task for some BlackBerry® users:
Unfortunately this implies that the UniqueID of each AddressBook record can (but don't have to) change. As a consequence the Iconify Dial- or Mail-Links can stop working after a OS update or device change. The new build of Iconify will solve this problem by auto re-aligning your contacts with the Iconify Mail- or Dial-Links after a system restore. Additionally Iconify is offering in the 'Edit-Iconify Links' section a new function that allows you to re-link an Iconify Mail- or Dial-Link that could not be aligned automatically. Please note that after a system restore an additional device reboot or launch of the Iconify options is required in order to trigger the automated re-aligning process.
  • New Option to select if Iconify-WebLinks should be installed via the default BrwoserSession (like it's done in previous Iconify versions) or via the registered Device Content Handler (new in this build). If you haven't had issues installing Web-Link launchers with the previous builds you might like to turn this option OFF again.
  • New Option to enable/disable the 'Online Cost' Warning popup.

What's fixed?

  • 'Dial or Mail' Dialog can be canceled with the 'ESC' key
  • Fix for creating WebLinks on some devices (like 8900)
  • No additional bug's where reported so far... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

2010/02/06 - Iconify 0.8.4β

Thanks for the positive feedback!

What's new?

  • Create combined Mail & Dial-Links (one Icon for both)
    1. Create a Dial-IconifyLink and install the LinkLaucher Application
    2. Create a Mail-IconifyLink and once you have select the recipient address (or 'select each time') you will be asked if you want to combine the Mail-Link with the existing Dial-Link.
Of course you can also create first the Mail-Link and then the Dial-Link - that should be no difference.
  • Mail-Links support now any Contact PhoneNumber (to be used for SMS-Messages)
  • Instructions can be turned ON/OFF in the 'General Iconify Options'
  • Added a default Iconify-Application on the Homescreen (will open the Options)

What's fixed?

  • Scroll behavior in the 'Edit IconifyLinks' improved.
  • Fix for installation failures of the Link-Launchers (reported by two users)

2010/02/02 - Iconify release of 0.8.3β

Initial release of Iconify (as public β)
