2012/11/12 - Iconify 1.7.0.3

Media-Folder Links & [SPACE] as Hotkey
It is more then a year ago since the last update of Iconify - so actually it would be time to release a new version that comes with some enhancements and fixes

What's New

  • Iconify allow you now to create additional new (virtual) Application Links to some of your Media Folders (requires OS4.7 or higher)
    • Iconify Media:Music
      - will open the Device Music-Folder
    • Iconify Media:Pictures
      - will open the Device Pictures-Folder
    • Iconify Media:Playlist
      - will open the Playlist-Folder
    • Iconify Media:Video
      - will open the Device Video-Folder
You can create these links by creating a new ApplicationLink (open Iconify Options, select 'Edit iconifyLinks' and then open the Menu and select 'Add IconifyApplicationLink') - there you will find in the list of installed applications additionally the new virtual Iconify apps (to make it easier to find them they start with the prefix 'Iconify').
  • Support of the [SPACE]-Key as Hotkey for any of your Iconify Links (if supported by your device/OS Version)

What's Fixed?

  • The issue with the SMS-Composer displaying two empty 'To:' fields (instead of one) is solved (by using key injection).
  • Layout of Mail & Dial-Buttons for a contact will have fixed paddings after the device orientation have been toggled multiple times.

2012/10/04 - Iconify 1.6.6.3

Case sensitive Hotkeys, SMS & eMail Composer Links...
It is more then a year ago since the last update of Iconify - so actually it would be time to release a new version that comes with some enhancements and fixes

What's New/Fixed?

  • Iconify allow you now to create two new (virtual) Application Links called 'eMail Composer' and 'SMS Composer'
You can create these links by creating a new ApplicationLink (open Iconify Options, select 'Edit iconifyLinks' and then open the Menu and select 'Add IconifyApplicationLink') - there you will find in the list of installed applications additionally the new virtual composer apps (to make it easier to find them they start with the prefix 'Iconify').
Please note that these new virtual links just launch the default "new/empty" eMail/SMS dialog of your BlackBerry device. Unfortunately there are some issues with the OS I could not get around. One is that on different devices/OS it could happen that the 'New SMS' screen is displaying two empty 'To:' fields.
  • Case sensitive Hotkeys
On newer BlackBerry OS Versions you can make use of different HomeScreen hotkeys for UPPPER and lower Case keys [e.g. so additionally to the hotkey 'a' you can assign an additional hotkey for another application with SHIFT+'a' (= 'A')]
In previous Iconify versions the hotkeys where always UPPER case - this have now been changed. In the General Options you can now enter UPPER and LOWER case Custom-Hotkeys and then use these different keys in the Link configuration.
Please note that it could happen that when you edit existing IconifyLinks with an assigned hotkey that you might need to reselect your hotkey cause of the fact, that the selection is now case sensitive.
  • Multiple small tweaks & fixes (like selecting again the just edited IconifyLink in the 'Edit IconifyLinks' List)

2011/09/18 - Iconify 1.6.4.3

Iconify goes Freemium - three free Iconify-Links for everyone

What's New/Fixed?

  • With the 100% free IconifyLite (no adds) you can create up to three Iconify-Links of any kind.
The amazing news is, that the free Version of Iconify does not have any functional limitation compared to the premium version of the application. The only difference is the number of Iconify-Links that you can use with the free Lite Version - it can be actually used for three fully functional and full user customizable links of any kind [compared to the 15 Link or 50 Link Premium Version (if you have all of your 50 Links in use you can even extend Iconify to 100 Links for free)]
To make use of your free IconifyLite Version simply install Iconify e.g. via AppWorld (Trail) and select from the initial sceen the "IconifyLite" Option.
  • Define own custom Hotkey Keys (General Options)
Unfortunately not all keys on the BlackBerry device can be used as 3'rd party application hotkey (mainly cause these keys are already internally used) - so the number of predefined Iconify hotkey keys is limited - but the good news is, if you haven't installed some of the default applications (e.g. like Help) you can extend the available hotkey list within the Iconify Options to make use of these additional available hotkey keys [e.g. the 'H' if you haven't installed BlackBerry Help]
  • Optional Alternative Application List retrieval [if for some reason the default implementation (that generated the application list) does not show an installed Application]

2011/09/10 - Iconify 1.6.3.2

Small Tweaks

What's New/Fixed?

  • Configure alternative Launchers for Application Links (e.g for FourSquare)
  • Confirm Dialog will be shown when canceling the Link Edit Dialog and changes are made to the link configuration
  • Fix: FileLink Path adjustments allow to enter any character
Please note that typically there is no need to adjust the file path manually since it should auto adjust itself once you are moving the file on the file system of your device
  • Fix: Options can be always accessed via the BlackBerry Options

2011/08/09 - Iconify 1.6.2.6

Small Tweaks

What's New/Fixed?

  • Link-Configuration Dialogs support Copy & Paste options (via the Menu)
  • Fix for potential device crashes when creating Web- or File-Links

2011/07/18 - Iconify 1.6.1.5

ApplicationLinks / HomeScreen Hotkeys / Global BlackBerry Menus

What's New/Fixed?

  • Create an Iconify ApplicationLink to any existing installed application on your BlackBerry® Device.
    • Specify a custom image for the Application or use the default Application Icon.
Please note, that most of the Core BlackBerry Applications (like Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Clock, etc.) does not come with own Application Icons - most of these "Core"-Apps gets their Icon from the current active Theme. Unfortunately there is no access (for a 3'rd party application) to these Theme icons - so you need to specify a own image.
    • Specify an custom name or use the default generated (depending on your settings the default application name.
Creating ApplicationLinks can be done via the Iconify-Options in the Edit IconifyLinks section. There you will find a Menu Item called 'Add IconifyApplicationLink' which will open a Application-Chooser. Please note that you can filter the list and hide the System (Core) Applications. This makes it much easier to find your individual installed 3'rd Party Applications.
Please Note, that not all listed System Apps can be actual launched - some of them require additional parameters & configurations that are only known by RIM.
  • For all Iconify Links you have the option to include the link in the global BlackBerry Menu - this will make the Link available always (in any application) via the BlackBerry Menu.
  • Additionally to be able to include each Link in the Menu you have to option to specify a HomeScreen Hotkey for your link - so you can launch the link directly from the HomeScreen by a single click on your BlacBerry keyboard (not available for Storm & Strom2 - sorry).
Please note that this functionality have some restrictions:
    • For OS6 you have to activate the 'Application Shortcuts' (this can be done in the Home Screen Preferences - Launch by Typing)
    • For other OS (except Storm/Storm2) you have to disable the the 'Dial from Home Screen' Option in the Phone Options
    • Some of the chars are already in use by the core BlackBerry applications (like 'O' (for Options) or 'M' (for Messages)) - so the number of available HomeScreen hotkeys is limited and you can't assign a hotkey for all of your Iconify links'.
  • Support for new BlackBerry Devices 9900 & 9850
  • Contact Pager-Number can be used
  • False "Used on Multiple Device message" fixed

2011/04/11 - Iconify 1.4.19

Maintenance release

What's New/Fixed?

  • ApplicationPermission Check (& Requests) for Iconify App and all it's Links
  • Option to set the Number/Mail-Type as prefix (instead of suffix)
  • Alternative implementation to receive HTML-Title and Site Icons for WebLinks (can be turned on in the Options)
  • Check your AddressBook for compatibility issues [in order to verify if you AddressBook might contain entries that might be not accessible by a 3'rd party Application]
  • Optimized automatically recovery for Dial- & MailLinks if AddressBook was restored (and contact UID's have been changed)

2010/10/19 - Iconify 1.4.8

What's New/Fixed?

  • Iconify can deal with BES-ProxyServers that require authentication
  • Trial-Version LicenceCheck fixed

2010/09/21 - Iconify 1.4.6

GUI enhancements/polish

What's New?

  • Dialogs that require textual user input will now all render the input fields with a border - This change should make it way more easier to identify in which area of the dialog you can specify additional values.
  • Reading Webpage Titles for Iconify-WebLinks will now handle entities
  • Iconify can deal with BES-ProxyServers that require authentication

What's Fixed?

  • Connection issues fixed
  • "Numbers to Hide" working now also with 'Others'

2010/08/26 - Iconify 1.4.3

Hotfix (OS6)

What's Fixed?

  • Iconify could fail to start on OS6 when larger device fonts (>9) have been used

2010/08/20 - Iconify 1.4.1

Hide Numbers from being shown when "Select each time" is used

What's new?

  • A long awaited feature have been added: Hiding selected phone numbers or eMail addresses for Mail- & Dial-Links when you are using the "Select each time" Option.

What's Fixed?

  • IconifyFile-Links could have been auto deleted when you have saved the file with a 3'rd party application

2010/04/15 - Iconify 1.3.0

New link type: Iconify FileLink [& Iconify FolderLink (if FileScout/FileScoutLite is installed)]

What's new?

  • Iconify FileLinks - actually when I look at my desktop, I have plenty of links to files (& folders). These are either links to documents that I access frequently or links to my playlists, pictures, etc... So why not support the same on the BlackBerry®?
With Iconify v1.3.0 you can create such kind of links to your HomeScreen as well. Either you use the build-in Files app [OS4.x: Start the Media App and select 'Explore' from the #Menu] to create Iconify FileLinks or (if you have not already done so,) install FileScout or the free FileScoutLite to browse the file system of your BlackBerry® device, select any folder or file and choose 'Create File IconifyLink' from the #Menu.
There is more - As you know Iconify keeps track of changes of your Contacts - The same will happen for File IconifyLinks! When you rename files (folders) to which an IconifyLink is pointing then Iconify is automatically update the corresponding Iconify FileLink. When you delete a file or a folder the corresponding Iconify File/FolderLink will be removed as well. Unfortunately 'move' is not supported.
When you use FileScout/FileScoutLite to create IconifyFile & IconifyFolder Links then Iconify can make use of the FileScout file type icons. When you create a link to a picture with FileScout, Iconify can even take the thumbnail of the picture as HomeScreen icon.

What's Fixed?

  • Small GUI tweak to ensure all Dial- & Mail-Buttons will have always the same width (nicer overall impression).
  • Cause of too many inconsistencies in RIM's API the option to create Iconify DialLinks from the PhoneLog had to be removed again - simply cause too often no contact context was provided by the API when the user was selecting the Create Dial IconifyLink from the #Menu. Please be so kind and always create Dial & Mail IconifyLinks directly from the Contact-Application - TIA.

2010/03/30 - Iconify 1.2.0 - Dedicated to my grand mother Maxi

Novice & Expert Mode

What's new?

  • In order to make Iconify even more intuitive for beginners without loosing all the options that are loved by the power users Iconify now can be operated in two different modes: 'Novice' & 'Expert'
    • Expert-Mode:
      • That's the default Iconify-Mode you know from the previous releases with all the options and features the power users like to have
    • Novice-Mode:
      • Simplified Link configuration: You can specify a custom image for your link (that's it) - If you would like later to tweak additional details of your link you can switch to Expert Mode and edit the link in the Iconify Options
      • Automatically create combined Mail&Dial-Links
      • Iconify-Option Dialogs is only showing the major settings [of course including the switch between Expert & Novice Mode (General Options)]
  • Question if you like to create a combined Mail&Dial-Link will now be asked, before you are setting up the link details (this hopefully makes it more intuitive to create combined IconifyLinks) [ExpertMode only]
  • New 'General Option' - 'Iconify Mode':
to toggle at anytime between Novice and Expert Mode
  • New 'General Option' - 'Use one dialog for combined Mail&Dial-Links':
When you are in Expert Mode you can either have an additional dialog to select between dialing or mailing your contact (like in previous releases) or you can have one combined dialog that have both buttons sets to call or to mail your contact (like it's done in novice mode).
  • In the Edit-Links Options dialog you will find a new Menu entry called 'Resync Dial&Mail-Links with Contacts':
It could be that for what ever reason you purge all your contacts in your address book and resync them with a server (e.g. via BES). In this case your Iconify Mail and Dial Links might stop working. By using this function, you can resync your previously created Iconify Mail&Dial links with your new created contact list (of course you need to wait till the synchronisation of your address book has completed before you make use of this feature).

What's Fixed?

  • -nothing-

2010/03/14 - Iconify 1.1.0

Send & Import IconifyLinks

What's new?

  • Send your IconifyLink via eMail to one of your friends (can include the complete contact information of your a Mail- or Dial-Link)
This new functionality is available in the "Edit IconifyLinks" dialog of the Iconify-Options.
  • Import an IconifyLink file (.ilk) that you have received via eMail or have download (e.g from this WebSite).
  • Support for phone numbers that are stored in the 'others' field of a contact (can be also used for SMS).

What's Fixed?

  • Potential hang up's during device boot (problems accessing the contact list)

2010/03/07 - Iconify 1.0.6

Edit IconifyLinks improvements

What's new?

  • Little GUI tweaks (button sizes)
  • In the Edit IconifyLink option dialog you can now sort your IconifyLinks by Name or by LinkNumber (can be toggled via the #Menu)
  • When you completed the editing of an IconifyLink the link will be selected again in the IconifyLink list.

What's Fixed?

  • support for OS 4.3

2010/02/26 - Iconify 1.0.5

What's new?

  • New General Option 'Use Webpage Title as IconifyLink name'
Iconify can read the Webpage Title and use it as IconifyWeb-Link name - by default this option is OFF.
  • New IconifyLinks Image Option 'Use maximum HomeScreen icon height'
In Iconify v1.0.4 a new default Icon size was introduced (e.g. for Bold, Bold2) - Actually I got feedback that not everybody was happy with this adjustment. So with Iconify v1.0.5 you can select if you prefer the large icon size (as it was before v1.0.4) or if you like to use the new icon size. By default this option is OFF. So when you want to have the pre v1.0.4 icon height you need to enable this option (and might need to refresh all IconifyLinks)

2010/02/23 - Iconify 1.0.4.1

hotfix

What's fixed?

  • No IndexOutOfBounceException when creating IconifyLinks (Dial&Mail) for contacts without given or family name

2010/02/20 - Iconify 1.0.4

What's new?

  • New Option 'Autorefresh IconifyLink every 30min, 1h, 2h, 6h, 12h, 24h or OFF'
Can be used if you encounter frequently the lost of the IconifyLink icons and/or texts (e.g. when you deinsall an application via the options or changing the active theme). The default setting is 2hours. If you haven't any issues in the past (like myself on my Storm2 running OS5.0.0.436) then you can turn this function OFF.
  • Icon sizes tweaked to match better the default device icon size [e.g. on Bold, Bold2 & Tour]
  • Iconify now also available as ALX to be installed offline via RIM's DesktopManager

What's fixed?

  • Some workarounds to try to force the update of IconifyLinks that are located in the first row of your Homescreen when the device is rebooted.
IconifyLinks that are visible on the default HomeScreen (no #Menu button have to be pressed) might not show the assigned IconifyLink Icon because of issues in the OS (or theme) itself. This build improves the situation but still might not work in all situations.
  • Fix for possible startup NullPointerException (reboot)

2010/02/15 - Iconify 1.0.3

minimal tweaks

What's new?

  • Small performance improvements when a IconifyLauncher will be initialized
  • Thumbnail display can make use of the BlackBerry® device generated thumbnails that are stored in the 'BBThumbs.dat' files (when available). This implies the following restrictions:
    • Device generated thumbnails might not support AlphaLayers (transparency issues)
    • Thumbnail might not match orientation of the original image
    • Not supported for devices running OS5.x

What's fixed?

  • Nothing - I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed.

2010/02/11 - Iconify 1.0.2

Official release v1.0 - OS update/Device change enhancements

What's new?

  • Updating the OS (or changing the device) is quite a common task for some BlackBerry® users:
Unfortunately this implies that the UniqueID of each AddressBook record can (but don't have to) change. As a consequence the Iconify Dial- or Mail-Links can stop working after a OS update or device change. The new build of Iconify will solve this problem by auto re-aligning your contacts with the Iconify Mail- or Dial-Links after a system restore. Additionally Iconify is offering in the 'Edit-Iconify Links' section a new function that allows you to re-link an Iconify Mail- or Dial-Link that could not be aligned automatically. Please note that after a system restore an additional device reboot or launch of the Iconify options is required in order to trigger the automated re-aligning process.
  • New Option to select if Iconify-WebLinks should be installed via the default BrwoserSession (like it's done in previous Iconify versions) or via the registered Device Content Handler (new in this build). If you haven't had issues installing Web-Link launchers with the previous builds you might like to turn this option OFF again.
  • New Option to enable/disable the 'Online Cost' Warning popup.

What's fixed?

  • 'Dial or Mail' Dialog can be canceled with the 'ESC' key
  • Fix for creating WebLinks on some devices (like 8900)
  • No additional bug's where reported so far... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

2010/02/06 - Iconify 0.8.4β

Thanks for the positive feedback!

What's new?

  • Create combined Mail & Dial-Links (one Icon for both)
    1. Create a Dial-IconifyLink and install the LinkLaucher Application
    2. Create a Mail-IconifyLink and once you have select the recipient address (or 'select each time') you will be asked if you want to combine the Mail-Link with the existing Dial-Link.
Of course you can also create first the Mail-Link and then the Dial-Link - that should be no difference.
  • Mail-Links support now any Contact PhoneNumber (to be used for SMS-Messages)
  • Instructions can be turned ON/OFF in the 'General Iconify Options'
  • Added a default Iconify-Application on the Homescreen (will open the Options)

What's fixed?

  • Scroll behavior in the 'Edit IconifyLinks' improved.
  • Fix for installation failures of the Link-Launchers (reported by two users)

2010/02/02 - Iconify release of 0.8.3β
